Four Simple Words That Can “Sell” Anything
Don Hewitt, the creator of one of my favorite television shows 60 minutes, died this past week.
You may be wondering how that has anything to do with selling content online. It does, simply because whenever asked about why he was so successful and why 60 Minutes has been on the air so long, Don Hewitt’s answer was always, “Four simple words: tell me a story.”
It occurred to me that those four words are the best way to sell anything – ideas, content, an argument, a car – anything. Tell a story and you’ll have a much easier time convincing your audience that what you offer is of value and deserves their attention.
No matter what you are trying to do, the art of persuasion, I think, will always require telling a story to your audience. It’s a great reminder to me that whenever I want to sell something or convince one or a thousand people that what I’m offering matters, a story is the ultimate tool.
Here are a few videos from Sunday’s program. As you watch, think about how Mr. Hewitt’s passion for telling stories relate to your own business.
